All of these vases are blown with the aid of an assistant. Color is added to the first gather, an overlay, and then four more dips complete the the gathering. The piece is then blown and manipulated to create the shape. When the form is achieved the piece is cooled to rigidity and placed in a cooling oven where it is annealed and cools to room temperature over twenty seven hours. When the piece is cool, I grind the bottom, sandblast it to frost it, and soak it in an acid bath for a number of hours. This acid etching is a finish step for the frosting, preventing finger printing and making the piece easier to clean. After it is frosted, I grind holes through the surface to create openings to the interior. These openings alow the viewer to enter the the interior visually and mentally creating an interactionbetween the interior and the exterior. The dots are ground and poished using diamond wheels in a five steop process adding to the interplay of the piece. The combination of facetting and frosted surface cr4eate an interaction with light that is truly unique.
