Each fish is handblown with an assistant. Glass from the furnace is blown on a pipe. My assistant,Eric, brings gobs of glass which are added for the fins. I reheat the fish and Eric brings the next bit of glass. We stick the glass on the fish body, I cut it off, and crimp it with a shears to form the fins. We start with the eyes and work front to the rear adding each bit one at a time. I reheat the fish and Eric brings the next bit. When all the fins are added, I attach a rod to the tail, separate the piece from the pipe, and reheat it. I fire polish the mouth and pull the lips out with a tweezers. The piece is then placed in a cooling oven, 900 degrees, and the whole oven full of work is cooled to room temperature over twenty seven hours. When the fish are cooled, I take off the punty mark as best as I can, grind the bottom fins so the fish stands, sandblast it, and acid etch the piece.
